Euro-MP visits NSPCC project in Notting Hill

Baroness Sarah Ludford, Liberal Democrat MEP for London visited the NSPCC Parkside Assessment project in Notting Hill on 21st May.

Baroness Ludford was accompanied by local councillor Jennifer Kingsley and local Lib Dem London spokesperson Francesco Fruzza. They met with staff at the centre to find out more about their work with families and children, in particular those who have experienced the trauma of domestic violence.

The Parkside Assessment Project began in 1997 and works in partnership with the Central and North West London Mental Health Trust. It provides specialist support for family and parents where decisions need to be made about a child's welfare or in cases where a child's safety is of serious concern.

Baroness Ludford said:"We need to make Europe work for everyone, and that includes children. Children's rights are enshrined in the draft European Constitution and I am glad to see such commitment to protecting the youngest members of our society.

"Seeing the work the NSPCC is doing with families who are affected by domestic violence has reinforced my commitment to ensuring that children across Europe receive the best protection possible. At national and European level children's interests must be a strong factor guiding our policies."

Parkside Assessment Project is one of 180 projects provided by the NSPCC across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. These include specialist investigation teams, domestic violence projects, family support centres and schools counsellors.
